"Everyone who lives in Central Ohio has seen
the Somali community's growing presence in recent years. It is no secret
that Columbus is home to many resettled refugees. However, people do know
always know why so many had to leave their native country to make a new
home in the Midwest," said Patrick Terrien, President&CEO of
the Columbus Council on World Affairs (CCWA).
The president of Somalia, Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed, visited Columbus Wednesday
and stressed the importance of education to the Somali people in their
homeland and in their new home, Ohio. Many Somali people have moved here
because their country, located in east Africa, has been engaged in a civil
war for 19 years. Through education, he said, the country could achieve
peace.

If you had the good fortune
of getting limited driving privileges after a driving offense, don’t
turn the opportunity into a misfortune by driving outside of your privileges.
This will only land you back in court with an even bigger headache than
your first case.
Limited driving privileges restrict the ability to drive to specific
places at designated times for occupational, educational, vocational,
and medical purposes.
In addition, taking a commercial
driver’s license examination is permitted if your privileges so
specify. This is equally true for attending court-ordered treatment
and perhaps other events as well. The important factor to keep in mind
is that your limited privileges must state the authorization in writing.
If you are caught driving
outside of the requirements of your written privileges, you subject
yourself to the offense of driving under suspension, which is another
misdemeanor charge that carries the maximum penalty of six months in
jail and a one thousand dollar fine. You further expose yourself to
a license suspension and court costs, not to mention a probation violation
case.
This can all be avoided if
you anticipate all of your driving needs and, at the time you obtain
limited driving privileges, you are assertive in having those needs
met by getting them included on your written authorization sheet. As
you do this, be mindful of the time allowance and seek to obtain ample
time to drive to and from your designated locations. Remember, driving
is a privilege and not a right..
